CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – As New Mexico’s 2026 election calendar takes shape, one major federal race is already set: no Republican filed to challenge U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján during the state’s filing period for federal offices, meaning Luján will not face a GOP opponent on the ballot this cycle. Local candidates can still file for county offices – including races such as sheriff and county commission – when local filing opens on March 10.
