CIBOLA COUNTY – Denise Hanson has been named the new Director of Cibola County Economic Development, marking a new chapter in regional collaboration and growth initiatives across the county.

Hanson will transition into the role from her current work with Grants MainStreet and the City of Grants, where she has been actively involved in community revitalization, tourism development, and economic growth initiatives. Her work in those roles has focused on strengthening local businesses, promoting cultural assets, and building partnerships that support long-term community development.

As she steps into the new position, Hanson says her priority will be to build on the positive momentum already taking place in the region.

“Our goal is to continue the progress that has already begun,” Hanson said. “We want to maintain that momentum while expanding opportunities across the entire county.”

Hanson emphasized that economic development efforts will focus on collaboration between multiple local partners, including the City of Grants, the Village of Milan, and Cibola County.

“Economic development works best when communities come together with a shared vision,” she said. “This role provides an opportunity to broaden the work already happening and ensure that the benefits extend throughout the entire region.”

Hanson noted that strengthening partnerships will be key to identifying and capitalizing on new opportunities for the community, including business development, tourism, outdoor recreation, infrastructure investment, and workforce growth.

By aligning the efforts of local governments, businesses, and community organizations, Hanson aims to develop a coordinated strategy that supports existing businesses and fosters new economic opportunities.

“We have incredible assets in this community — from our location along Route 66 to our outdoor recreation opportunities, cultural heritage, and local businesses,” Hanson said. “The goal is to build on those strengths and position Cibola County for continued growth.”

Hanson said she looks forward to working closely with regional partners to help bring new opportunities, investment, and economic vitality to the area.

“Our focus is simple,” she said. “We want to bring more economic opportunity to our community and ensure that the entire region benefits from the progress we are making together.”
