GRANTS, N.M. - The Grants High School Boys Tennis team is 5-6 after their most recent meet with Bosque Prep on March 19th where they lost 7-2.
Pirate number 1 Carlos Fernandez was defeated by Marcus Moran 8-4. Number 2 for the Pirates Lucas Rychener defeated Orion Amburgey 8--

In doubles play number 1 Lucas Rychener and Carlos Fernandez defeated Orion Ambergey Marcus Moran 7-5, 6-4.
In number 2 doubles play Pirates Bernard Joshua Laberinto and Gabriel Graham were defeated 6-1, 6-0. Doubles number 3 for the Pirates Ian Villegas and Broc Cox were defeated 6-3 and 6-0 by Ebube Okapareke and Liam Hebert.
Next up for the Pirates will be Highland (3-3) on March 25th at home in a district match-up.
The Lady Pirates are also 5-6 after a recent win over Capital on March 21.
Number 1 lady Pirate Amelia Torres defeated JoJo Miera 6-0, 6-0. Pirate number 2 Emma Munson defeated Paulina Duron 6-6, 6-1.
Number 3 for the Pirates Jenna Chavez was defeated 6-2, 5-4 (7-3) by Angelica Dominguez. There were no reported doubles matches. The lady Pirates will start districts with a home match against St. Pius (5-1, 1-0) on March 24th on the road.
The GHS track team is 3 track meets in and here are the notables from the most recent meet last week at the Rio Rancho Rust Buster held at Rio Rancho High School. Top finishers for the lady Pirates track team as follows.
Laila Martinez, GHS long distance legend in the making, a senior, placed 1st in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:20.33 and 2nd in the 400 meters with a time of 59.34. Tori Felipe placed 1st in the javelin with a throw of 102-3.00. Felipe also placed 2nd in the discuss with a throw of 979.5 and 3rd in the shot put with a throw of 30-8.50.
For the GHS Boys team Nathanial Saltclah placed 4th in the 1600meter run with a time of 4:52.26 and Raydan-James Ray placed 4th in the long jump with a jump of 12-0.00.
