Grants, New Mexico — Continental Divide Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CDEC) today announced the retirement of Chief Executive Officer Robert E. Castillo, effective April 21, 2026, following 16 years of dedicated leadership and service to the Cooperative and its members.
Mr. Castillo’s voluntary retirement marks the conclusion of a distinguished tenure characterized by steady leadership, operational growth, and a strong commitment to the communities CDEC serves.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire Cooperative, we extend our sincere gratitude to Robert for his years of service, leadership, and dedication,” said CDEC Board President Keith Gottlieb. “His contributions have had a lasting impact on the Cooperative and the members we serve.”
During his tenure, Mr. Castillo played a key role in guiding the Cooperative through evolving industry challenges, the introduction of broadband, the strengthening of distribution infrastructure, and maintaining a focus on reliable and affordable electric and internet service for rural northwestcentral New Mexico.
Mr. Castillo expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve the Cooperative and its membership, noting the strong relationships built over the years with employees, board members, and the communities served by CDEC. Castillo was selected from among six finalists in March 2010 to replace then outgoing manager Richard A. Shirley.
CDEC remains committed to its mission of delivering safe, reliable, and affordable electric service. An announcement on an interim manager will be forthcoming, and CDEC’s governing board will begin the search process for Castillo’s replacement.
