GRANTS, N.M. - 17 inmates at the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility in Grants completed the Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) certification program, continuing to make New Mexico among the few states offering CPSW training and certification inside correctional facilities. This program was done partnership with the Office of Peer Recovery and Engagement and the New Mexico Health Care Authority. What is a CPSW? A certified peer support worker is someone who has experienced long-term recovery from mental health and/or substance use conditions and is trained to help others in their recovery. Additionally, this vocational training program gives them the ability to be billable serving under behavioral health, when they release.
