Larry Smith Sr., age 61, of Grants, NM passed away the early morning of Monday April 5th, 2021. Larry was born in Ft. Defiance, AZ to Chee and Hannah Smith on June 21st, 1959.
He passionately pursued a lifelong career as an auto mechanic. During his childhood, he shadowed and worked closely with his late father Chee Smith. Later he moved from Gallup to Grants, where he would reside and raise his family.
He started his career with Dwight Kastendieck at Delta Tire. Next, he would serve with Dan Stock at Doc Dan Auto. Lastly, he would open a garage with Steve Stewart and named it L and S Automotive. He served many from the surrounding areas. He would develop bonds with those he served and those he worked with. During his leisure time, he would participate in basketball tournaments in his youthful years. He would later become a coach and mentor for his children. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family outings with his loving wife, Marjorie.
Larry is survived by his wife, Marjorie Smith, his son, Larry Smith Jr., his daughter, Brenda Ann Largo and husband Les Largo Jr., his son, Zachary Lee Smith, his son, Brandon Lee Smith, his grand children, Brianna Largo, Keyanna Smith, Melory Largo, Araeya Smith, and Logan Largo, his siblings, Lorriane Smith, Louisa Smith, Lorretta Smith, Duane Smith Sr., Denise Smith and Lenora Smith.
Larry has reunited with his son, Wayne Lee Smith, in heaven. He will also reunite with his mother, Hannah Smith, his brother Eugene Smith, and his father, Chee Smith.
Larry's funeral services will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021 10 a.m. at Cope Memorial Chapel in Gallup, N.M. Burial Services will precede the funeral services and will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Gallup, N.M.
Officiant is Evelyn Yazzie, pallbearers are Duane Smith Sr., Norman Smith Sr., Herman Chee Jr., Vernon Nez, Dorsett Henio, and Zachary Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Smith Jr., and Brandon Lee Smith.
