Vera Garcia passed away on July 5, 2021 at her home in Grants, New Mexico surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years of age. Mrs. Garcia was born on September 20, 1932 in Aspermont, Texas. Services will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, on Monday July 12, 2021, a public visitation will begin at 6 pm, at 7 pm a Rosary Vigil will be led by Henry Montoya Sr. and Geraldine Vallejos. On Tuesday July 13, 2021 at 10 am a Mass will be celebrated. Interment will follow at Grants Memorial Park.

Mrs. Garcia and her husband Joe D. Garcia moved to Grants in 1959. She was a dedicated homemaker to her husband and 9 children. After Mr. Garcia's retirement, together they coowned, J & V Furniture for over 20 years. She was a devoted member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, where throughout the years, she served in, alongside her husband, the Ultreya and Cursillo groups. She was also a 20+ year member of the Cibola General Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Garcia was the beloved matriarch with a heart of gold and was willing to help anyone in need, “even strangers.” Her family was so important to her, she would remember everyone’s birthday and anniversaries and have a card ready to send. She always had a meal for the hungry, a lap for a little one, or a hug for a bigger one, the memories are countless, she was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years: Joe D. Garcia; her children: Ruth V. Hambright, Michael R. Garcia and his wife Veronica, Peggy Saavedra and her husband Juan, Debra Estrada and her husband Dan, Jose “Fruty” Garcia and his wife JoAnn, Agnes F. “Aggie’ Ornelas and her husband Erick, Geraldine Vallejos and her husband Les, Camille Jaramillo and her companion Tommy Trujillo; son-in-law Henry Montoya Sr., 19 grandchildren. 26 Great-Grandchildren. Her sister: Teresa Garcia along with numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.

Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her parents: Rosendo Morales and Luz Quiniones Morales; two daughters: Sally Montoya, and Diana Garcia; her siblings: Nena Gonzales, Eva Medina, Ninfa Ybarra, Luis Morales, and Beto Morales; her parents-in-law: Frutoso and Magdalena Garcia.

Pallbearers include John F. Hambright III, Arthur Garcia, Henry Montoya Jr., Gabriel Saavedra, Nicolas Estrada, Adam Ornelas, Joaquin Vallejos, and Mark D. Jaramillo.

Honorary Pallbearers include Rachelle Galindo, Miranda Barajas, Nikolas Galindo, Dominic Galindo, Madison Villar, Emery Barajas.
