Herrell introduces amendments to suspend gas tax, and more

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Yvette Herrell has introduced six amendments to the Democrat-led $3.5 trillion budget bill, seeking to protect Americans from worst of Nancy Pelosi's grab-bag of radical leftist priorities.

"Insane federal spending in this monstrous Democrat budget adds insult to injury for millions of Americans suffering under runway inflation and unemployment in Joe Biden's America," said Rep. Herrell. "I have offered amendments that would protect American families from the worst actions of the Biden administration by temporarily suspending the federal gas tax until the COVID crisis ends. These amendments would also preserve revenue for public education and first responder funding that comes from the energy industry, save jobs by ending punishing fees against New Mexico businesses, and move to end the Biden administration's leasing ban that stands in the way of American energy independence."

The PUMP Act Amendment would provide direct relief to middle class Americans by granting a temporary federal gas tax holiday for the next six months or until the federal public health emergency order related to COVID-19 expires, whichever is longer.

The POWER Act Amendment would give Congress back control over our domestic energy production on federal lands and waters. The leasing ban that was put in place by the Biden Administration earlier this year was done without any input from Congress or relevant stakeholders, which is why a federal judge issued a temporary injunction earlier this summer.

The Education Funding Amendment would ensure that new fees and fee increases in the budget bill cannot go into effect if they are proven to negatively affect revenues for public education.

The Police and Fire Protection Amendment would ensure that new fees and fee increases in the budget bill cannot go into effect if they are proven to negatively affect funding for law enforcement and fire protection readiness.

The Onshore Fees Amendment would strike from the budget bill punitive fee increases on energy producers that endanger New Mexico jobs, as well as newly created fees on onshore energy development.

The Energy Prices Amendment would ensure that new fees and fee increases in the budget bill cannot go into effect if they are proven to increase energy costs for those making less than $400k a year.
