Grants Needs a Woman on the Lodger’s Tax Board

Body

Mayor Erik Garcia, the time has come to appoint a woman to the Lodger’s Tax Board.

The Lodger’s Tax Board is vital to the overall health of Grants, being that the city is the primary economic engine of Cibola County, this board holds a lot of power.

The Cibola Citizen applauds our current members of the board, but we are in serious need of a feminine touch. Mayor Garcia, when the next va cancy appears on the board, choose a woman to fill the spot.

The City of Grants government prospers when it looks like the people it represents. Finally, a woman is back on the city council. A woman now leads the Grants-Milan Airport; female leadership in the Grants-Cibola County Chamber of Commerce and in local businesses is helping the local economy to thrive.

There are many, many talented and well-qualified women in Cibola County, and after years of male dominated leadership, it is time for a woman to serve on the Grants Lodger’s Tax Board.

The Cibola Citizen asked community members if they could remember the last time a woman served on Lodger’s Tax, and each individual we questioned said, “I don’t remember, has a woman ever served on the board?”

Grants City Government has had a very rocky last two years, its time to move away from those issues and into a new era where the city can grow and increase the opportunities of the residents. When the City of Grants does well, all of Cibola will do well.

Moving forward from the disruptions of the last few years and into a new era of prosperity for Grants will require some shake-ups. In some instances, “the way we’ve always done things” won’t fly. Moving forward, Grants must be a city that looks like the people living in it.

Cibola County and Village of Milan governments do a great job of being inclusive and welcoming to people of all shapes and sizes. The City of Grants appoints women to positions of importance, we at the Cibola Citizen recognize and ap preciate that. This is about making sure women in Grants have the same opportunities as men to be in positions of power. After watching the latest board meeting, our staff decided we needed to speak up about this important issue: Grants is a place where everyone can live and thrive, let’s prove it.

Mayor Garcia, you can make this happen. When a vacancy occurs on this board, appoint a woman to fill the position.
