GRANTS, N.M. – Student poets at Los Alamitos Middle School recently won big thanks to their creative writing. Los Alamitos had a winner for both grades and an overall winner between the two grades.
Contestants in this competiton were charged with writing an original, descriptive poem. The poem needed to have descriptive language, title, the poets name, and needed at least three stanzas. The poem could be over any topic or theme.
Overall Champion
Coming in strong with “My Home”, Neveah Garcia – Seventh Grader at LAMS – was the overall winner. Invoking the strengths of New Mexico, Cibola County and Grants, Neveah calls on a truly New Mexican spirit and captures the land’s beauty.
Neveah received a $25 gift card for this poem.
Seventh Grade Champion
Reilley Burress won the seventh-grade competition with “The Love We Show”, a poem about how love makes us stronger. Reilley received a $20 gift card for this poem.
Eighth Grade Champion Angeline Collins takes the eighth-grade first place competition with, “HIM”, the poem details the frightening story of selfdiscovery.
Angeline received a $20 gift card for this poem.
