GRANTS, N.M. –
The 600 Block of Chaco Avenue in Grants, New Mexico, was rocked by a vehicle fire. Grants Fire and Rescue moved quickly to contain the fire, which appeared to have suspicious starting points. The fire appears to have started in a black sedan. After awaiting the state fire marshal to determine if foul play was involved, officials learned that this fire appears to have been purposefully started. Grant Police Chief Jeff Marez explained that residents have nothing to be concerned about. For the time being, it appears that this arson had a particular target in mind.
At this point, GPD is not releasing a motive for the fire but is actively investigating. The department is asking the public to keep their ears open for anyone talking about the arson. Please call Cibola County CrimeStoppers at 505-287-8400 if you have any information on this event.
