Wells Fargo robbed by Red Shoe Robber
GRANTS, N.M. –
Brandishing a handgun, the Red Shoe Robber managed to steal an undisclosed amount of money from Wells Fargo on May 7. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is handling this case, in a statement, the agency said they are searching for at least one woman, who is believed to be the robber in this situation. As of press time, a joint-effort by the FBI, Grants Police Department, Milan Police Department, and Cibola County Sheriff’s Office discovered the vehicle used in the getaway.
The Robbery
Chief Jeff Marez of the Grants Police Department said that at this point, not much information can be released about the robbery. The Red Shoe Robber had a “long ponytail and mascara all over her face,” according to the FBI’s Public Affairs Officer Frank Fisher.
According to a preliminary report, the Red Shoe Robber walked into the bank around 11:30 a.m., as she approached the teller, the robber brandished a firearm and demanded money from the teller’s drawer. After taking money, the Red Shoe Robber fled in an undisclosed vehicle which appeared to have been driven by a male accomplice. Photos of the vehicle and accomplice have not yet been released by law enforcement.
The Cibola Citizen asked Chief Marez if the bank included dye-packs, which explode dye all over robbed money. The chief said that he could not, at this time, discuss how much money was taken or what was given from the bank tellers to the robber.
The use of a firearm in this robbery “elevates” the severity of the crime, according to Chief Marez. Bank robbery holds a possible prison term of up to 20 years, the use of a dangerous weapon – whether real or not; whether a firearm, knife, or a bomb – increases the potential of prison time to 25 years.
Finding the Getaway Vehicle
With permission from the FBI, Chief Marez released the following statement just before the press deadline.
“As of May [9,] 2022 the FBI, Grants Police, Cibola County Sheriff’s Office, and Milan Police worked together to recover the vehicle involved in the bank robbery Saturday morning. No further information can be released at this time as the case is still under investigation by the FBI.”
When the Cibola Citizen pressed Chief Marez for more information, he said that the case was being handled by the FBI and GPD is assisting.
