On June 7, New Mexico went to the polls for the primary election that will give Cibola County a clear view of which candidates will be competing against each other for elected office. Because the results were not released by press time, election updates will be posted on CibolaCitizen.com and our Facebook page. Look to next week’s edition of the Cibola Citizen for a story on election night with all of the winners. As of press time, the Cibola Citizen can project winners for offices that were unopposed.

Cibola County Commission Dist. 1: Republican Richard S. Coop will win the primary. He will face a Democrat in the November 8 General Election, the Democrat primary race was not decided by press time.

Cibola County Commission Dist. 3: Democrat Ralph Lucero will win the primary. Republican Martin “Modey” Hicks will win the primary. Lucero and Hicks will face each other in the November 8 General Election for this elected position.

Cibola County Probate Judge: Democrat Marie Garcia will win the primary and advance to the November 8 General Election. She does not have a Republican challenger.

Cibola County Assessor: Democrat Dolores Vallejos will win the primary and advance to the November 8 General Election. She does not have a Republican Challenger.

Cibola County Sheriff: Republican Wesley Mallery will win the primary. He will face a Democrat for this position, the Democrat race was not decided as of press time.

State Representative District 6: Democrat incumbent Eliseo Lee Alcon will win the primary. Republican Jerri D. Rowe will win the primary. Alcon and Rowe will face each other in the November 8 General Election for this seat which has been contested for two elections in a row after several years of Democrat Alcon running unopposed.

Magistrate Judge: Two positions are available for Magistrate Judge, both positions are unopposed and have no Republican challenger.

Position 1: Democrat Tony Mace will win the primary and will be unopposed in the November 8 General Election.

Position 2: Democrat Johnny Valdez will win the primary and be unopposed in the November 8 General Election.

Undecided as of press time: Cibola County Commission District 1: Incumbent Christine Lowery is being challenged by former Commission Chairman Robert Armijo. Both are Democrats and this race was not decided by press time. Cibola County Sheriff:

Cibola County Sheriff: The Democrat ticket had six candidates; the seat is vacant as incumbent Tony Mace has hit his term limit. The Democrat race was not decided as of press time.
