Free Movie – “The Fighting Seabees”

Seabees – a vital but lowprofile branch of the US Navy. Seabees are respected construction experts – electricians, welders, plumbers, carpenters, brick layers, etc. The movie “The Fighting Seabees” will be shown Saturday, July 2 at 2 p.m. in the Double Six Art Galleryon Route 66. Let’s learn about the character of skilled people who build. An example of Seabee work is McMurdo Military Base on Antarctica. John Wayne stars in the film. Local, retired teacher Keith Thomas gives it a “Thumbs up.”

Military Life in the Marines

A Marine is an ordinary person capable of extraordinary actions. They are called “The few, the proud.” Grants has contributed many Marines to the US military. One is retired, but continues to serve the community. His name is George Garcia. Mr. Garcia will speak about military life, freedoms and patriotism on Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m. at the Double Six Gallery, located on Route 66/Santa Fe Avenue. All Marines are special guests. Speaking is an art. The arts are for everyone!

Multi-talented, Laguna artist, Mr. Gilbert Waconda, will be the instructor for the second in the art camp series. July’s date for the art camp is Saturday, the 16th, beginning at 2 p.m. Location is the Double Six Gallery on Route 66/Santa Fe Avenue. “Christmas in July” is the focus of this camp for ages 6-10 years. The Double Six Art Gallery is honored to present GHS Junior ROTC member in a July 23 performance. The students are carrying on the dedicated traditions of our high school. The students will perform their arts Saturday, July 23 at 2 p.m. The department is headed by Mr. John Hollins. The gallery’s location is 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue/Route 66.

Free Movie – “The Stranger”

Writer, actor and director Orson Welles was 25 when his first movie, “Citizen Kane” was released. It is considered one of America’s finest films. In 1946, “The Stranger” was released. Welles directed Loretta Young and Edward G. Robinson. This film will be shown at Double Six Art Gallery, Saturday, July 30, at 2 p.m. Next weeks’ notice will have film information.
