Body

A 50-megawatt solar facility is set to be built in Cibola County, New Mexico, to help supply green energy to Facebook’s facility in Los Lunas, Valencia County, N.M. Public information about the construction is limited at this point, the Cibola Citizen reached out to the Cibola Communities Economic Development Foundation but did not hear back from them by press time about their involvement in this new power facility. At this point, no information is public about the location or time frame for construction of the facility.

Facebook has a large facility in Los Lunas, since beginning construction in New Mexico, the facility continues to increase its need for energy. Facebook has pledged $2 billion to make sure that the new facility is completely operated using clean-energy.

Public Service Company of New Mexico, an adjunct company wholly owned by Power New Mexico, announced the construction of the Cibola power facility over the weekend.

This will be the sixth solar farm built by PNM to supply clean-energy to Facebook’s Los Lunas facility. No PNM consumer will pay an extra cent in their power bill due to the Cibola facility, this is thanks to an agreement between PNM and Facebook where Facebook will cover the full cost of energy to their facility.
