Acoma Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse

Body

ACOMA PUEBLO – Karl Shroulote, Sr., 46, of Acoma Pueblo pleaded guilty to sexual abuse on the pueblo. Shroulote is an enrolled member of the Acoma Pueblo. Sentencing has not been scheduled but he will not be remanded to prison until scheduling. This comes as part of a plea deal negotiated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Shroulote’s Federal Public Defender, Melissa Ayn Morris. While he is not remanded to custody at this point, Shroulote Raquel Ruiz-Velez represented the United States of America in this case, using information from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Acoma Pueblo Police Department.

The plea deal they agreed to says that Shroulote will face between five years and three months; and six and half years in prison depending on the judge. Presiding over this case is Sr. Chief US District Judge William P. Johnson.

The judge will make his sentencing based on the plea deal in which Shroulote admits to sexually assaulting an unconscious woman, identified as Jane Doe in court records, on April 29, 2018. The assault occurred in Shroulote’s house on the Acoma Pueblo.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs investigated this case with assistance from the Pueblo of Acoma Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Alexander F. Flores and Raquel Rui-Velez are prosecuting this case.
