GilbertAnthony Pacheco was born inAlbuquerque, NM on March 4, 1937, he passed away in the home he shared with his wife of 59 years on May 29, 2023. He was 86.

The son of a railroad worker, Gilbert spent his youth going between Winslow Arizona and the village of Paguate. During high school, Gilbert’s family moved to Grants, NM. He graduated from Grants High School in 1956.

Gilbert served his country in the United States Navy as a crewmember on a troop carrier during the Vietnam War era and a Navel Weatherman during the time he was stationed in Guam. “Gil” continued his service by becoming a member of the American Legion Post 13 and the National Weather Service Association. He took pride as a member of the Pueblo of Laguna Honor Guard.

Gilbert also served the Pueblo of Laguna as Tribal Secretary, Staff Officer, Councilmen, and village officer for the Village of Paraje/Casa Blanca.

Gilbert worked well into his 70’s, his last job was with the Dancing Eagle RV Park. He was known to share the history of the Pueblo of Laguna with the guests and on occasion invite them home to share a meal during feast days.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia DesJarlait-Pacheco, daughters, Maria Pacheco of Seama, NM and Kristina Pacheco of Casa Blanca, NM. Three grandsons, Michael R. Ray of Las Cruces, NM, Jaron Louis-Kie of Rio Rancho, NM and Luis Zamora (LJ), Jr of Taos Pueblo, NM.

Gilbert shared his home and love with many extended family, adopted family and friends.
