August Free Movies PSA

Time change! Time change! Movies at the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 now begin at 11 a.m. on alternate Saturdays. Everything else is the same. Hope to see you for “To Sir, With Love” and “A Beautiful Mind” this month. The arts are for EVERYONE!

August 2 Cemetery Board Meeting The Grants Cemetery Board Meeting will convene on August 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers at 600 W. Santa Fe Ave. Agendas will be available July 28.

August 4 Free Classical Music, American As America was becoming a nation, so was its music “becoming.” Our music had many influences. Conductor Leonard Bernstein describes those influences, and the New York Philharmonic plays them. If you’re curious about classical music, attend a history lesson this Friday, August 4 at 4 p.m. in the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66/1001 West Santa Fe Ave.

August 8 Discussion on VA Compensation and PACTAct

A conversation leads by local legionaries to help break down the compensation process for our rothers and sisters in arms. As the one-year anniversary of the PACT Act approaches, we break down the law and how it effects the compensation process. Veterans! Members and non-members alike, please join us for a purpose driven gathering lead by local legionaries. Join us from 1 – 3 p.m. at a 121 Third Street in Grants.

August 12 “To Sir, With Love” Author James Clavell wrote “Shogun,” “Noble House,” and “A Children’s Story.” He also adapted “To Sir, With Love” and directed the film version. Sidney Poitier is a teacher is a tough London high school. He is patient and firm as he provides practical lessons about becoming adults. Show-time 11 a.m., Saturday, August 12 at the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66.

August 25 Call for Written Art School begins soon. What feelings, thoughts, reactions, or emotions does school cause? Write a song, a piece of poetry a story or create a drawing that that expresses you. Students, mothers, fathers, and teachers – all can take part. How about submitting your work to Double Six Gallery? Don’t wish you had done this – do it! Location is route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Deadline is August 25.

August 26 Free Movie – “A Beautiful Mind” Ron Howard earned an Academy Award for best Director of the 2001 film “A Beautiful Mind.” Actress Jennifer Connelly also earned an Oscar, for best Supporting Actress. Russell Crowe portrays a brilliant mathematician with mental challenges. Date is Saturday, August 26. Time is 11 a.m. Venue is Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66.

September Movies in September In support of the Rugged West celebration in September, the Double Six Art Gallery will show the movies “Little Big Man” and “Lone Star.” Dates are September 9 and 23. Time 11 a.m. Venue is the gallery on Route 66/1001 West Santa Fe Ave. The arts are for EVERYONE!
