Letters to the Editor . . .

Dear editor, When you drive Sakelares Boulevard and get east of the Waste Management facility you come upon lots of plastic sheeting caught on the barbed wire on their east and north fences. It is so bad that some have gone across Sakelares and have become entwined in the fence across the street. Waste Management may say that this plastic is not coming from their facility; I say otherwise as I have watched it blow off new refuse containers. And even if this trash is coming from off site, Waste Management should clean it up. Heck, even C and E Concrete and the Waste Transfer facility send folks out to clean up litter on and, in some instances, off their property (my thanks to them).

This is not a recent condition. It is a chronic, ongoing, long-term condition. I do not believe that corporate Waste Management personnel would approve of it.

I also condemn the local leadership and authorities for not addressing this situation. Code enforcement should have paid a visit, and if the situation was not addressed, the Mayor or the City Manager should get involved. If that does not work maybe the police or sheriff should visit. All those little pieces of plastic that have escaped the facility could fund a couple new law enforcement vehicles if the littering fees were applied.
