Ancil “Bud” Newton Williams Jr.

It is with a heavy heart we share the passing of Ancil “Bud” Newton Williams Jr., 97, of Grants, New Mexico on Friday, November 3, 2023. Bud was born in Sudan Texas on December 20, 1925. The Celebration of Life for Bud will be held on December 2, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the American Legion Post 80, 121 South 3rd St. Grants, NM 87020.

Bud lived a life some only dream of. He joined the Navy during World War II when he was just 17 years old. He then traveled the world after he left the Navy. He worked on a cable ship that placed the cable for Cape Canaveral, crossed the international dateline more times than he could remember while working on different tuna ships. He worked in many different professions, all over the world. Bud never had an idle minute, always working on a project or invention, spending time with family, guiding hunters, or anything he could find to keep him active and busy.

Bud was the one who encouraged the mischief and is fondly remembered as the one who never scolded the children. Bud was responsible for his niece’s nickname “Porky” after he convinced her that if she planted a can of Pork and Beans, more cans would grow. Bud loved with his whole heart and always brought smiles to the faces of those around him. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

Bud is preceded in death by his Father: Ancil “Slim” Newton Williams Sr.; Mother: Ruth Vernon Sanford; Sisters: Joyce Clements, Audrey Navotny, Mickey Patrick; Grandson: Nicholas Rougemont; and Great-Grandchild: Skyler Williams.

Bud Leaves behind his wife of 58 years: Carol Williams; Daughter: Cheri Whitlock Johnson and Husband David Johnson; Son: Michael “Buddy” Gorton; Daughter: Rena Williams and Husband David Gaddis; son: Mickey Williams and Wife Candi Williams; Ten grandchildren: Joseph Lyons, Ashley Bingham, James Rougemont (wife Cristal), Alexia Rougemont, Laurence Rougemont, Mickey Williams Jr, Dylan Williams (Katie Kirlin), Kyle Williams, Joshua Williams, and Justin Ahlheim; Nine great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Anthony, Isaiah, Dakota, Estrella, Matthew, Nicholas, Alaya, and Jaxon; Extended family members including: Eloy Sedillos and wife Louella, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
