Starting Monday November 20, 2023, the eastbound lanes of Santa Fe Avenue, between Iron Avenue and Breece Street will be closed. Traffic will be reduced to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound in the westbound lanes of Santa Fe Avenue. The closure is due to new sewer line installation. The project should be completed by March 2024. The construction zone will be designated as a Double Fine

Zone.

December 16 A Holiday Meet and Greet with Santa Paws Himself!

1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The Grants Animal Care Center 722 Sakelares Blvd.

Donations Requested: Pig Ears, Cat Nip, Toys, Leashes, Collars, Cat Food, Dog Food, Treats, Blankets, Towels. Come join us for a small open house at the care center, meet the animal control officers and take a walk through the facility. Take a picture with Santa while you enjoy coffee and cookies while supplies last.

December 18 Cibola Arts Council Meeting

Ever Wonder what it is like to be on a community board? Sit in on the December 18th meeting of the Cibola Arts Council and get informed. You are welcome! The meeting place is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Time is 6:30 p.m.

December 20 Free Movie – “Rabbit Proof Fence” Someone said, “The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword.” In the Dec. 16 movie, “Rabbit Proof Fence”, viewers will see an example of the power of females… young females. Those aboriginal girls travel 1,500 miles on foot to return home to their loved ones. Venue is Double Six Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Time is 11 a.m.

Special Grants Council Meeting A Special Grants City Council Meeting is scheduled for Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave. Agendas will be available Dec. 15 at city hall.

December 21 Shop With A Cop

Help us provide a happy holiday for underprivileged children in our community. We would like to provide 51 children (3 from each school) a $200 gift card to shop with their local Police Officers and First responders on Thursday December 21st, 2023. A carnival and lunch with Santa will be held at the Knights of Columbus following the shopping spree at Walmart. Please call Chris Madrid at 505.240.1237 to arrange for a booth. Special Cibola Commission Meeting

The meeting of the Cibola County Board of Commissioners has been rescheduled to a Special Cibola County Commission meeting on Dec. 21 at 2 p.m., 700 E. Roosevelt Ave, Grants. This is the normal day for the meeting, but the time changed from 5 p.m. to 2 p.m.

January 16 GCCS Board Meeting

The Grants Cibola County School Board will hold an inperson school board meeting on Tuesday, January 16 at 5:30 pm, at the GCCS central office boardroom.

January 18 GCCS - Free Developmental Screening Thursday January 18th, 2024 at the Special Education Complex: If you suspect your child has learning concerns or issues, including giftedness, and you would like to have your child's skills screened, please call Desiraye Lopez 285-2643 to make an appointment. Please make an appointment. All screenings are free. Parents will be informed of screening results at the conclusion of the screening session. Ages 3-21 years old.
