Missing the voter registration deadline doesn't mean you have to miss out on voting.
May 6 was the last day to register to vote in the June 4 Primary Election. In New Mexico, Same-Day Registration (SDR) provides a safety net for those who didn't register by the official deadline.
Here’s what you need to know to make sure your vote counts!
Eligibility for Same-Day Registration (SDR)
To use SDR in Cibola
County, you must:
• Be a U.S. citizen.
• Be a resident of New Mexico.
• Be at least 18 years old on or before the June 4 Primary Election.
Where &When CanYou Register?
SDR is available during the Early Voting period as well as on Election Day itself. Here are the locations where you can register and vote simultaneously in Cibola County:
• Cibola County Clerk’s Office: 700 Roosevelt Ave Suite 50, Grants, NM.
• Designated Early Voting Locations: Please contact the Cibola County Clerk's Office for specific sites, or check the Cibola Citizen’s Early Voting Locations Article.
• Polling Places on Election Day: Available at all polling locations June 4.
What You Need to Bring
To register and vote using SDR, you need to provide identification that verifies both your identity and residency. Acceptable forms of ID include:
• New Mexico driver’s license or ID card issued by the Motor Vehicle Division.
• Any document with your address in Cibola County, plus a photo ID.
• Student photo ID from a New Mexico postsecondary school along with a current fee statement with your address in the county.
If you're registering on Election Day, June 4, or during Early Voting, you can only participate in the election by declaring affiliation with a major political party at the SDR location. This will enable you to vote in the party’s primary. Remember, New Mexico conducts closed primaries, so party affiliation at the time of voting is legally required.
After You Vote
Once you've voted, you can change your party affiliation back to your original status if desired through NMVOTE.ORG.
For any further questions or detailed assistance, don't hesitate to contact the Cibola County Clerk's Office.
Remember, every vote counts, and it's never too late to make your voice heard!
