P.E.O. Scholar Award

The Grants Chapter U of the P.E.O. Sisterhood is proud to announce that Chali Simpson is a 2024 recipient of the P.E.O. Scholar Award. Chali is receiving one of 100 awards of $25,000 this year, from an applicant pool of over 800.

Chali is the daughter of Darren Simpson and Brenda Simpson and is a 2017 graduate of Grants High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, Class of 2021 and is currently at Texas A&M University working on her Doctorate in Ecology.

The Scholar Award recognizes and encourages academic excellence and achievement with a monetary award that provides partial support for study and research for women who have the potential to make significant contributions in their varied fields of interest.

Chali’s dissertation is focusing on her lifetime goal of providing science-based solutions for improving American agriculture resiliency against catastrophic weather events, production to match rising global population & increasing demands for sustainable clean air and water, as well as concentrating on the importance of maintaining native and natural areas for carbon capture.
