“Take me out to the ball game,” is a song from 1908 about going to a baseball game. For one young Cibola County youth, Joseph Lujan, the song can be tweaked a bit to “take me out to the world series” as he has been added to the roster of the Q-City villains a 13-and-under baseball team from Albuquerque who is invited to play at the USSSA world series in Dallas, Texas this upcoming weekend. “Jo Jo” as his friends and family call him is actually 12-years-old and playing up with the 13-year-olds. He was ecstatic to make the team and said, “I’m excited and grateful,” for the opportunity to travel with the only team from New Mexico to be competing in that world series.

He tried out recently as a pitcher with the Q-City Villains and pitched in a recent game as a guest pitcher.

Lujan, who also plays shortstop has been practicing with his new team as he prepares for the world series which is a 5-game guarantee.

Lujan, who also works with GHS baseball staff pitches a 63 mile an hour fastball and also favors throwing a breaking ball.

Prior to joining the Q-City Villains he played with the Albuquerque Adams baseball club. Lujan feels he is “composed” on the mound and eagerly awaits the competition in Dallas.
