The Grants High School Pirates football team will host a scrimmage this upcoming Thursday at 5:00 at the Port of the Pirates where they will host district rival the Kirtland Central Broncos and the neighboring Laguna- Acoma Hawks.
“We battled with KC at their place last year and were able to come out on top,” GHS head football coach Steve Brown said. “This will be a great gauge of where we are.”
The scrimmage will also be showcase for two quarterbacks vying for the starting position.
Junior DJ Chavez and fellow junior Tristin Fernandez are both looking to be picked for the starting quarterback position with the Pirates. “They will both be on the field as much as possible,” said Brown in an interview last week.
Brown encourages the community to come to the scrimmage and get a glimpse of the team and “see them (fans) in full force.”
