Delfina Anzures Hicks, 93, passed away peacefully on September 1st in Casa Grande, Arizona, with her Arizona family by her side. She was born on January 15, 1931, in Williams, AZ. to Prudencia Marquez and Cornelio Anzures. She moved to Grants in 1954 with her son Wayne Candelaria and her sister’s family. She created many fond memories in Grants. In 2014 she moved to Casa Grande, Arizona with her niece, Virgie and husband, Tony.
She met and married Paul M. Hicks in 1961. Paul also had a son, David, and they quickly became a family of four. After her husband Paul retired from the uranium mines, they started a turquoise jewelry business which they operated for 20 years until they retired. Paul and Delfina had been married for 39 years.
Delfina, “Dale”, “Tita”, “TT”, was an excellent cook and baker. She was able to whip up a five-course meal with nothing in the cabinets. She was blessed with many talents. Crafting, sewing, making porcelain dolls and painting all filled her with joy. She liked being active. She was in a bowling league; a member of a group called the Red Hatters and other community service groups. She was like a mother to many of us and that is why we think of her as a “ Mother To Many.”
Delfina was preceded in death by her parents Prudencia Marquez and Cornelio Anzures; her son Wayne Candelaria; her husband Paul Hicks; and three siblings: Rafael Joe (Shorty) Anzures, Ida W. Andrews and Teresa Brown and a niece Mary Alice Anzures Mitchell.
She is survived by her son: David Hicks (Vonnie) of Grand Junction, CO; nieces: Virginia Anzures Rascon (Tony) of Casa Grande, AZ, Nadine Anzures Brodd (Mike) of Albuquerque, NM, Sylvia Anzures Gonzales (Patrick) of Grants, NM and Rhoda Anzures of Albuquerque, NM., Rita Anzures Williamson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and a nephew Joe Anzures of Bloomfield, CO.
