Grants, NM — The Grants MainStreet Project is thrilled to announce the award of a $40,000 forestry grant with an additional $14,000 funded by New Mexico MainStreet to fund a comprehensive
Tree Risk Assessment within the MainStreet district. This vital project aims to enhance public safety, preserve urban forestry, and support longterm community beautification efforts.
The grant will facilitate a professional assessment of trees in public spaces to identify and address potential risks, including overgrowth, disease, and structural instability. By ensuring the health and safety of the district’s trees, the project aligns with the city’s vision for a vibrant, sustainable, and welcoming downtown environment.
Key Objectives of the Tree Risk Assessment Project:
• Evaluate tree conditions to prioritize maintenance and mitigation needs.
• Enhance safety for pedestrians, businesses, and visitors in the Main-Street area.
• Develop strategies to preserve healthy, mature trees that contribute to the city’s character.
• Strengthen community engagement and environmental stewardship efforts.
“We’re grateful for this generous funding, which will allow us to safeguard our urban canopy while supporting a thriving downtown,” said Denise Hanson, Executive Director of Grants MainStreet Project. “This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability and community wellbeing.”
The project is slated to begin in early 2025, with findings and plans shared with the public as part of the MainStreet program's ongoing transparency and outreach.
