The annual Shop With a Cop event, held December 19, brought warmth, smiles, and holiday cheer to underprivileged children in Cibola County.
Spearheaded by the Cibola County Sheriff's Office and the Grants-Milan Rotary Club, this cherished initiative fosters meaningful connections between local law enforcement and the community while ensuring children experience a joyful holiday season.
Officers from agencies across the region—including Grants Police, Milan Police, Cibola County Sheriff’s Office, Laguna Police, New Mexico State Police, and others—paired up with children for a heartwarming shopping spree at Walmart. Armed with gift cards, the young participants made thoughtful purchases, some choosing gifts for themselves, others for their families, and some even prioritizing essentials like food and household supplies.
The festive day didn’t stop at the checkout counter.
After shopping, the children were welcomed to a community celebration hosted at the Knights of Columbus. Booths were set up by La Vida Felicidad, Roberta’s Place, the 13th Judicial District Court, and other community organizations, offering treats, games, and holiday fun.
Adding to the magic, Santa, Mrs. Claus, and even The Grinch made special appearances, with The Grinch arriving in style via PCI Helicopter. A delicious spaghetti lunch, prepared and served by volunteers including Chris Sr. and Betty Madrid helped to cap off the day’s festivities.
Generous donations from local businesses like El Cafecito, Parkhurst Pharmacy, Southwest Dental, and countless individuals ensured that every child left not only with gifts but also with Thrive Life freeze-dried meals to take home.
Cibola County Sheriff Larry Diaz, Undersheriff Marez, and their dedicated team played an instrumental role in orchestrating the event, supported by community volunteers and the unwavering commitment of local law enforcement.
