A City of Grants Special Projects Update took place on the 6th of March, discussing projects are currently in progress and some which had not yet started.
Washington Avenue
The construction of Washington Avenue began on the 10th of March. It is phase 2 and 3 of the roadway and drainage for this avenue. This project has required traffic control, road closures, and detours, from Jefferson to Anderman Street.
Phase 1 has caused Washington to Jefferson and onto Smith Street to be closed, with only residential traffic able to pass through.
A barrier has been placed on Smith Street, completely restricting traffic from going through.
The drop off and pickup at Mesa View Elementary has been changed, with the traffic being a one-way for both picking up and dropping off. It requires parents to use Smith and Truman Avenue, while being unable to use left turns on their way out.
Project Manager Nadine Jiron has assured that they are working closely with the principle of Mesa View, Grants Police Department, and Grants Fire & Rescue to ensure they take all the safety measures possible.
The after school programs at Futures Foundation recreation center will continue, with students being escorted to the building by school staff and meeting up with the recreational center staff.
Parents are not to park at the Futures Foundation parking lot, as students will be released at the backside of the school on Truman Avenue.
If there are any questions contact the project manager or the Mesa View principal.
Airport
The Grants-Milan Airport has made a lot of progress with the pilots’ lounge framing having been completed and the windows installed. As of March 6th, the insulation and sheetrock was being put in.
The hangar structure is up and the roof was ready to be put on. The dirt work will be dealt with before this week ends. Once the entirety of the structure is up, the doors to the hangar will be installed.
Multi-purpose Arena
The Multi-purpose arena has been undergoing construction since the middle of 2024. The grand stands have been completed, as well as the structure to the arena building. As of March 6th the sewer and sanitation system that will tie into Zuni Canyon road was being worked on.
Last week, the main power was connected to the electrical panel.
The parking lot and roadway paving and the placement of the wire fence will be installed before the end of this week, if all goes as planned.
Other
The Second Street shared loop was being prepared for the pavement and once the handrails are installed, they will be painted.
The I-40 waterline crossing required traffic control, which was put in place. On the 20th of February, the 12-inch install began. The rock excavation towards the South of I-40 is going to happen soon. The bore under I-40 is planned to start on the 17th of March.
The next special projects update will take place on March 20th at 1:00pm in the City hall chambers.
