Bluewater Lake Sees Strong Trout Activity

Fishing at Bluewater Lake has been productive in recent days, particularly for anglers targeting trout.

On March 15, reports indicated that trout fishing at Bluewater Lake was VERY GOOD, with anglers finding success using Chartreuse Power Eggs and chrome Kastmasters. Just a week earlier, fishing for trout was also fair to good, with Garlic-Scented PowerBait proving effective.

Some anglers also reported catfish activity, with worms being the bait of choice at Bluewater Lake.

The lake has recently been stocked with a fresh supply of triploid rainbow trout, ensuring plenty of opportunities for a strong catch. On March 10, the Red River Trout Hatchery delivered 6,000 rainbow trout, each averaging 10 inches in length. This recent stocking should keep fishing conditions favorable for the coming weeks, as spring temperatures continue to rise.

As of reporting from anglers at Bluewater Lake on March 20, fishing for trout has remained very good and productive.

Anglers planning a trip to Bluewater Lake State Park are encouraged to check in with park officials for the latest conditions. More information can be found on the New Mexico Game & Fish website or by calling (505)876-2391.
