Overall, student proficiency rates at the end of the 2023–2024 academic year were:

18% proficient in math (up from 17% the previous year) 36% proficient in reading (up from 30%)

29% proficient in science (up from 27%)

In comparison, New Mexico’s statewide averages were:

23% proficient in math 39% proficient in reading 38% proficient in science This means that while Cibola County students made important gains over the 23-24 school year, they were five points behind in math, three points behind in reading, and nine points behind in science compared to statewide results.

The 2024-2025 academic year is about to come to a close and student scores are expected by mid-November.

The Cibola Citizen recognizes that students are more than numbers, and we celebrate their achievements. Student academic results are a representation of the economy and the work of the community’s adults, the data presented in the newspaper serves to show the efforts going in to improve the academic results of Cibola’s youth.
