Early Morning Fire Erupts in Milan

MILAN, N.M. — Firefighters from Village of Milan Volunteer Fire Department, Grants Fire & Rescue, and Cibola County Fire Command quickly knocked down a fire in a rural area along Haystack Place early Monday morning.

Milan Police Department and Cibola County Sheriff’s Office supported the efforts of fire officials.

The fire was reported around 8:15 a.m. on May 6 and burned through a property accessed by rough roads on the hillside. As of press time, officials confirmed there was no loss of human life, though it remains unclear if any pets were lost.

The blaze, which drew a large multiagency response, was fully contained without further spread to nearby properties.

No cause was announced, and officials were still on scene at press time conducting their investigation.
