Cole Ray Shorty and Landen Toledo pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter after the events that took place on May 27, 2022.
According to court documents, Shorty and Toledo confronted the victim, John Doe at his place of residence to retrieve Shorty’s backpack. During this confrontation, John Doe exited his vehicle with a baseball bat, leading to Toledo grabbing him by his wrists and throwing him to the ground.
Toledo admitted to kicking the fallen John Doe in the stomach several times causing him to lose hold of the bat. Shorty then took the bat and struck John Doe on the head, leaving him unconscious and causing him to die later from blunt head trauma.
Shorty was sentenced to 72 months in prison, while Toledo’s sentence has not yet been determined.
