ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico United traveled east to face Hartford Athletic on Wednesday, July 30, in a midweek USL Championship match at Trinity Health Stadium. The match, which kicked off at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time, was broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network and Estrella TV, with local streaming available via KRQE.com and radio coverage on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM.

The fixture marked United’s return to league play following a weekend victory in Jägermeister Cup action against San Antonio FC. New Mexico entered the match ranked third in the Western Conference standings with a record of 8 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw (25 points). The club was seeking its first league win since June 21.

Hartford Athletic, meanwhile, came into the match with a 3-8-4 record (13 points), sitting 12th in the Eastern Conference. Despite their position in the standings, Hartford featured a forward pairing of Kyle Edwards and Mamadou Dieng, who had combined for nine goals this season.

New Mexico United’s lineup featured recent addition Valentin Noël, who scored in his debut on July 26 against San Antonio. Midfielder Dayonn Harris also returned to action after recovering from an ACL injury, scoring a key goal that sent the San Antonio match to penalties, which United ultimately won.

The last meeting between the two clubs was on June 8, 2024, at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, where United defeated Hartford 1-0 in front of nearly 11,000 fans. The alltime head-to-head record between the teams stood at 1-1-1 entering Wednesday’s game. New Mexico United is led by Head Coach Dennis Sanchez, who joined the team in 2024 following a successful stint with Las Vegas Lights FC. Under Sanchez’s leadership, the club recorded its best-ever season in 2024, finishing first in the Western Conference and setting franchise records in wins and points.

Statistical leaders for United entering the match included Luiz Fernando (4 goals), Mukwelle Akale (5 assists), and goalkeeper Alex Tambakis (35 saves). Defenders Kalen Ryden and Jaylin Lindsey led the team in clearances and tackles won, respectively.

The team’s schedule continues with road matches against FC Tulsa on August 9 and Louisville City FC on August 23, along with several key fixtures in September and October as the postseason race intensifies.
