GRANTS, N.M. — The Grants Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating 51-year-old Andrew Gurule, who is wanted in connection with a violent incident that occurred earlier this month in Cibola County.

Gurule is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted on charges including first-degree criminal sexual penetration, kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery against a household member.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to Balsam Street on the evening of Aug. 5 for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. The victim, identified only as Jane Doe in police records, was found with multiple injuries and transported to Cibola General Hospital.

Witnesses told officers that prior to being struck, Doe had been assaulted by a man later identified by police as Gurule.

The investigation revealed that the day before the incident, Gurule allegedly threatened Doe with a black and silver handgun and sexually assaulted her. Police say Gurule then took Doe to a different location where she was assaulted again and intentionally run over by a vehicle driven by a person unidentified in police records.

Grants Police Department and its partners are investigating this incident. Officers have been unable to locate Gurule and as of press time he remains at large.

Police urge anyone with information about Gurule’s whereabouts to call the Grants Police Department at 505-2872985, Cibola County Crimestoppers at 505287-8400, or the Cibola County Regional Communications Center at 505-287-9476.

Police warn: do not approach Gurule if seen.
