Student Volunteers Join Grants MainStreet Effort to Freshen Up Riverwalk Park

Bright blue railings and cleared walkways marked visible progress at River Walk Park after a Saturday morning work session led by the Grants MainStreet Project. Sixteen Grants High School AVID students spent the morning painting handrails and picking up trash and weeds in the park and along Santa Fe Avenue as part of a multi-week revitalization push.

MainStreet described the effort as the start of its “paint revitalization initiative,” aimed at bringing more color and care to public spaces in the MainStreet District. The district spans Santa Fe Avenue from Wayne Street to Anderman Street and follows the Rio San Jose north to include Mountain Road and Grants High School.

Volunteers plan to return next Saturday at 8 a.m. at the MainStreet office to finish handrail painting at River Walk Park.

On Facebook, Grants Mayor Erik Garcia thanked the student group for pitching in.
