Charles L. Voigt

Charles L. Voigt, also known as Chuck or Papa, was born on September 17, 1938, in Harlingen, Texas. He passed away on August 25, 2024. When he was eleven, he walked three miles to meet the milkman to pick up the glass milk jars and then delivered them to the homes before going to school. He worked in a cannery, picked cotton, and ran a cotton gin. In 1959, he moved to Grants, NM, for a job at Phillips Mine. On August 5, 1961, he married the love of his life Nina Ramsey. Three months later, he was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany as the General’s driver. He played semipro football in the service. After returning from the service, he ran a Texaco Service Station and then a Shell Service Station for about 30 years. Charles was always dedicated to doing his best and took pride in his work. In his free time, he enjoyed being a cowboy on the Berryhill, Harding, and Michaels Ranches and loved roping. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and camping with his family.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Mary Voigt, brothers Leroy and Jerry Voigt, grandmother Julie Compton, and great-grandpa Charles Gideon Voigt. He is survived by his wife Nina, son Kevin (Cindy), daughter Deeava (Derran), granddaughters Casey Marquez (Moses), and Janell Edwards (Eric), grandsons Cody Curtright, and John Edwards, great-grandsons Liam, Kaleb, Samuel, Noah, and Easton, great-granddaughters Isabel and Averi. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Bays (Cecil) and many nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will take place on September 21, 2024, at 1:00 pm at The Way, Truth, and Life Ministries, located at 700 Sakelares Blvd. The interment will immediately follow at The Grants Memorial Park on 500 W. Roosevelt Ave., with a reception to follow @ The Elks on 805 Charles St., Grants NM.
