Frances Smith Odom passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 2:15 am in Gallup, NM. Frances lived a long and full life, having touched the lives of many along her journey.
A Memorial Service for Frances, age 93, of Milan, NM, will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church of Grants, on 224 Mountain Road, Grants, NM.
Frances was born on August 29, 1931, in Vernon, TX, to Cecil Owen Smith and Nora Faye Stubblefield Smith. In 1949, Frances graduated high school in Seagraves, TX. She met the love of her life, Barney Henderson Odom Jr., and they were married in Brownfield, TX, on December 23, 1950. Their early years were spent going where Barney's work took them, across most of the western U.S., before finally settling in Milan, NM, in 1966, where they raised their six children.
Frances had many interests; her favorite was genealogy, which she devoted a lot of time to in her later years. Frances was an excellent quilter, winning many Best of Show and First Place ribbons. She also made baby quilts for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Quilting Guild of Grants.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Barney Henderson Odom Jr.; son, Carl Bruce Odom; granddaughter, Shanna Rouch; father, Cecil Owen Smith; mother, Nora Faye Stubblefield Smith; and brothers, Roy Wayne Smith and J. W. Smith.
She is survived by her five remaining children: Daughter Debbie Carroll and husband Scott of Grants. Grandson Duane Carroll, and great-granddaughters Shantale Carroll of Roswell, and Tracy Thompson and husband Bryan, greatgreat-granddaughters Kyrie and Amelia of TX. Great-grandson Justin Alheim of Grants. Granddaughter Rebekah (Becky) Castrizano and husband Lazaro of Grants. Great-grandsons Connor Mac Neil of Albuquerque and Shaun Mac Neil of Rio Rancho. Grandson Phillip (Andy) Carroll and wife Helena, Great-granddaughter Lacie Carroll of Grants. Daughter-in-law, Barbara Bailey Odom of Lubbock, TX. Grandson Thomas Odom and wife Katelyn, Great-grandson Archer and great-granddaughter Carly of Austin, TX. Granddaughter Caitlin Baker and husband Kenny of Abernathy, TX. Son Johnny Odom with wife Deborah of Newark, OH. Granddaughter Anissa Broyles and husband Ben, great-grandson Jackson and great-granddaughters Kenna and Taylor Broyles, all of Newark, OH. Great-granddaughter Leigha Lines. Great-great-grandsons Landyn and Lincoln Volker of Thornville, OH. Great-grandson Joshua Lines, Great-great-grandson Graham Lines. Great-grandson Nick Lines. Great-granddaughter Lexxy Gillind with partner David, great-great-granddaughters Mia and Wrenley in Newark, OH. Son Don Odom of Milan. Son Travis Odom and wife Kathryn of Roswell. Granddaughter Valerie Broesamle with husband Christopher of Roswell. Greatgrandsons Joshua Broesamle of Pembroke, Ontario, Canada, serving in the Canadian Army; Patrick Broesamle serving in the Army at Hohenfels Army Base in Germany; Tristan Popek serving in the Army at Ft. Sill, OK; and Gregory Broesamle in Roswell. Granddaughter Stasha Sprouse with husband Andy of Waldorf, MD. Granddaughter Samantha Gallaro with husband Isaac of Roswell. Granddaughter Dawn Odom in Roswell. Son Steve Odom with wife Coni of Continental Divide. Grandson Christopher Odom in Columbus, IN. Granddaughter Maegan Odom of Bethany, PA.
Extended family: Jayne and Michel Clarke of Waco, TX, and Shavon, Jerry, and children Trinity of Baltimore, MD; Alyssa, Keavin, Alana, Jacob, and Brian Shultz of Milan... and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Beehive of Gallup assisted living facility. They welcomed Frances with love and tender care. Everyone there went above and beyond; she was treated respectfully and with dignity.
