James “Jimmy” Barajas

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jimmy Barajas on December 20, 2025 at his home in San Rafael, New Mexico surrounded by his family. Jimmy was born on October 19, 1945, in Gallup, New Mexico, he was 80 years old at the time of his passing.

Jimmy graduated from Grants High School in 1965 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1965 - 1968 as an Ammunition Specialist. After serving in the Air Force, Jimmy returned to the Grants area where he built his life and family. He worked at Kerr-McGee until their closing, went on to work for Rotary Drilling, from there worked at Diamond G until retiring to become his special needs sister, Clara Jean’s caretaker. Jimmy had a deep love for horses, roping, and rodeo—passions that were central to his life. Whether working with horses or spending time at rodeos, he felt most at home in that world. He proudly passed this love and knowledge down to his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memoriesand a family legacy.

He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Triny Barajas; Daughters: Tina Barajas-Jimenez and husband Paul, Frances Barajas; Sons: Timo Barajas and wife Trish, Carlos Barajas and wife Miranda. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Chelsie Archibeque and husband Pat, Michael Urioste and wife Tricia, Andrea Urioste, Cherrice Garcia, Daniel Teegarden, Victoria Jimenez, Seth Teegarden, Krysta Barajas, Madison Villar, Emrey Barajas: Great-grandchildren: Damian and Roman Archibeque, Aubree and Lucas Urioste. Brother: Roy Barajas; sister: Clara Jean Barajas. Jimmy was preceded in death by Brenda Gray-Barajas; his parents, San Juan and Clara Barajas; brother, Frank J. Barajas; sister, Rita Barajas; his grandparents, Timoteo and Rafaelita Torrez, Francisco and Pilar Barajas. A funeral Mass will be held at San Rafael Catholic church on Friday, January 2, 2026. Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM led by Sandra Garduno, Funeral Mass will follow. Inurnment will take place at St. Teresa of Avila’s Columbarium. A reception will be follow at the Knights of Columbus in Grants, NM.

The family invites everyone to “wear your cowboy hat” in honor of Mr. Barajas. The family would like to thank CNS, Ben Wilcox, Kristin Brown and Dungarvin for all their help, love and support.
