Leandro Sanchez, age 95, a long-time resident of the San Fidel/Grants area, went home to Heaven on September 14, 2021.

Leandro was born on June 22, 1926 in San Fidel, New Mexico to his parents, Gregorio Sanchez and Luz Lucero Sanchez. He was a US Army Veteran, a Miner, a Miller, a Rancher, and a business owner.

A lot of people may remember him from his famous hamburgers and chicharron burritos at the Sanchez Hamburger Stand.

Leandro was preceded in death by his parents: Gregorio and Luz Sanchez; his loving wife of 69 years of marriage: Adela Duran Sanchez; his son: Peter Sanchez; his grandsons: Paul Anthony Sanchez, Gabriel Sanchez, and Francisco Pablo Barajas; his brothers: Remigio Sanchez and Filiberto Sanchez and his sisters, Apolonia Lemos and Sally Sanchez.

Leandro is survived by his loving children: Manuel and his wife Patsy, Jerry and his wife Ruth, Rosemary and her husband Ruben, Johnny and his wife Patricia, Susan and her husband John; 18 grandchildren and their spouses; 47 great-grandchildren; 8 great great-grandchildren; and a grand-doggie; his brother Antanacio Sanchez and wife Agnes; and his sisters, Stella Montano, Dolly Tafoya, and Carol Sanchez. He was also an uncle to numerous nephews and nieces.

Rosary and Funeral Services will be held on October 22, 2021, starting at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Grants, NM. Burial will follow at the San Fidel Cemetery. A celebration of Life Reception will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus. Pallbearers will be Karlos Almanza, Pablo Almanza, Julian Madrid, Eric Pena, Angel Pena, Elijah Ramirez, James Ortiz, James Martinez, David Sanchez, John Barela, Juan Gonzalez, Manuel Sanchez Jr, Patrick Sanchez, and Toby Ortiz.
