Mrs. Priscilla Archunde, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, December 18, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Priscilla was born September 21, 1935 in Los Alamos, NM. She later moved to Albuquerque to attend college and worked at St. Joseph’s hospital. It was then that she met the love of her life Isaias Archunde and the two were married in 1960. After moving to Grants and starting their family, Priscilla began volunteering at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church and then began teaching at St. Theresa Catholic School. Mrs. Archunde was a beloved teacher to so many students. She taught 2nd grade for many years and even after retirement continued working as a substitute teacher and classroom aide.
Priscilla was a faithful and devout Catholic. She attended Mass daily and was a weekly adorer at St. Teresa of Avila Church for years until her health no longer allowed her to. Priscilla also served her church community in several capacities - as a Eucharistic Minister at Mass and for the sick and homebound, a lector, an altar server coordinator, and a religious education teacher.
She is survived by her her daughters and son-in-law, Audrey Archunde and Aileen and Chris Sanchez; her grandchildren and their spouses, Tabatha and Michael Saavedra and Steven and Elizabeth Sanchez; her six great grandchildren, Mikayla, Autumn, and Isaiah Saavedra and Santino, Serenity, and Sariah Sanchez; and her sister Lucy Dinkle.
She is preceded in death by her mother Felomena Gallegos, her loving husband Isaias Archunde, her brother Jesus Garcia, and her grandson Christopher Sanchez.
Services will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Tuesday, December 27, 2022. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 and funeral Mass at 10:00. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Cemetery.
