“A house divided against itself, cannot stand.” - Abraham Lincoln Charlie Kirk was a 31year-old devout Christian, right wing activist, husband, and a father of two toddlers. When listening to him speak you could tell he was smart and articulate. He believed in the power of debate over violence.
Millions of people followed and respected him. People all over the world are mourning his death, holding memorials, donating to the family, painting murals, and more.
Kirk traveled across the country to college campuses to give students the opportunity to speak, even against him, and he remained respectful and encouraged critical thinking.
In a June 29, 2025 appearance on 'The Iced Coffee Hour' podcast, host Jack Selby asked Kirk how he hoped to be remembered if 'everything completely goes away.”
'If I die?' Kirk responded, before Selby clarified.
'Everything just goes away,' Selby said. 'If you could be associated with one thing, how would you want to be remembered?”
'I want to be remembered for courage for my faith,' Kirk said. 'That would be the most important thing; most important thing is my faith.”
Two months later, on September 10, 2025, while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University, he was shot. His wife and children were present. Some say when Kirk’s daughter heard the shot, she ran to her father – her safety. Kirk was taken to the hospital and soon pronounced deceased.
Death, no matter who’s it is, is tragic. Yet, this assassination has proved that there are many inhuman people in America. People who are celebrating this innocent man’s death. People who proudly comment on videos, photos, etc that they are glad it happened. Its not just a few comments, distressingly, there are tens of thousands.
How could this be? How has America turned into a place that celebrates violence?
We should all take a moment to really think about what it means for people to be celebrating it. Violence and murder can never be justified. Terrorism can never be justified. It isn’t free speech. It’s terrorist support.
It should not matter what your political or religious views are, if Kirk said something that offended you, none of it is an excuse to be heartless.
Regardless of one’s thoughts or beliefs, someone should never be killed for their opinion.
Additionally, when Kirk’s wife spoke a few days later, she stated “I will never let your legacy die.” A unselfish, painful thing to state while being filmed. Yet, once again, there are many people commenting negative, terrible things, even hoping she is next.
Something very wrong has happened to our society. There are many who are malicious and without sympathy. There is no tolerance for difference or patience for conversation. Too many people are not interested in the facts. We have to be better. We have to be human. Human as God intended. God will not tolerate this ungodly behavior.
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgement.’” Matthew 5:21
