How could they not care?

Body

How could they? How could they sneak like thieves in the night and dump two beautiful dogs behind Walmart to starve and possibly die?

No food, no water, no protection from the elements. Grants has a beautiful animal shelter where they could have left them, but no. They were lazy and cared nothing about such desperate animals. They only cared about themselves and their comforts.

Then, a miracle. The people of Grants/Milan who shopped at Walmart took heart to try in some way to save them. At first, they began leaving small plates of food for them, but it was not enough. They needed more food and needed water. Again, the loving hearts of this community stepped up. It started slowly; the little paper plates of food grew much larger, where no water existed small paper bowels of water began to appear. But it was not enough.

They were still very hungry and never had enough water to drink. The caring shoppers at Walmart stepped up again to save these beautiful animals. What began as small plates of food became full bags - more than they could eat. What had started as small bowls of water became a landslide of large containers with enough water to keep them alive. The people of Grants/Milan had stepped up. Now, we had another problem. How do we save them from predators prowling for food in the night? These are domesticated animals and certainly no match for coyotes and wolves.

Like the Lone Ranger and Tonto charging in to save a fair maiden, in charges the Grants Animal Care Center. Rather than horses, they ride animal control trucks. Rather than yelling Hi Oh Silver, they quietly attempted to capture and save these precious animals. But no luck. They use food to attract lost animals, but the citizens of Grants/Milan had fed them so well that the control officers couldn’t capture them. In marches our next group of heroes, Walmart and its employees.

The control officers asked Walmart if its employees could step in and remove, if only for a day, the food graciously left for the animals. They would then be attracted to the capture containers and taken to the shelter and saved. Walmart employees and management stepped up to save these precious animals. How wonderful!

Next week we will tell you more about how they accomplished this, those involved, and the most important part – what finally happened – it might be happy or perhaps it could be sad. Stay tuned.
