Noise Abatement
Dear editor,
New murals downtown (and farther afield) are wonderful facelifts. In addition, more outdoor events are happening to attract families and outof- town visitors and encourage them to walk along historic Rt 66 and shop at the stores there. Also we want to have gatherings with musical entertainment. It’s time to work on noise abatement in this district!
Even if the trains can’t be quieter, the road traffic can.
Reducing the speed limit for the blocks between Wayne Street and N Fifth Street and requiring motorcycles and other loud vehicles to have mufflers (i.e. having penalties enforced) would be a start. Someday, smoothing the road surface would be ideal. Grants is heading toward a renewal that aims to promote a vibrant, friendly downtown people want to spend time at, noise abatement is a must.
Santa Fe Avenue is a heavily traveled corridor; without restraints, it allows everyone to blow right past the City instead of noticing its offerings.
