Letters to the Editor . . .

Body

Dear editor, Lee Alcon the District 6 Representative in Santa Fe, NM recently may have resigned his post before the NM Secretary of State of New Mexico certified the election results which according to State Laws 113-16 B, C, 1 & 2 Post-election duties, secretary of state duties, 1-14-1, 1-14-2, 1-14-3, 1-14, Contest of elections who may contest, 1-14-2 Contest of Election: filing of complaint, 1-22-18 Local election; date term of office begins.

I am no lawyer by any means, but I can read and write and according to the New Mexico Secretary of state webs site for the 2024 election results shows the candidate who ran against. Alcon in Cibola County got more votes 54 percent of the vote for his opponent and to 46 percent for Alcon. How every Alcon got more votes for the position in McKinley County.

The opponent ran as a Republican of course, and on 12-03-24 at a Cibola County Commissioners meeting they voted to put one democrat’s name to the governor to replace Alcon who does not live in District 6 and lost his election.

Several citizens, including myself, spoke to some of the commissioners and left emails with the election results to the Cibola Commissioner before there meeting asking them to put the opponent’s name to replace Alcon. Unconfirmed information the McKinley County Commissioner meeting was also tasked to put a name forward to the Governor having 17 names submitted they tabled their decision for now. As we have seen in the recent national headlines and the national elections results. Republicans are always accused of not following the laws and think they are above the law all the way up to the newly elected president. It is apparent to me New Mexico the state I have lived in all my life and called home after to enforce the laws of the state which I took an oath to more than once do not apply to some politicians much less the will of the people they are supposed to serve. I can only hope that some type of legal action can be taken by Alcon ‘s opponent to make things right but again like most people I have seen many lose their legal battles in court especially in this state because they did not have enough money to appeal or continue the fight.

Signed Mr. Harry L. Hall USAF Veteran Retired Police/ Sheriff Lt. 38+ Years.
