Letters to the Editor . . .

Body

Dear editor, I would like to commend our local newspaper for keeping us informed of considerable apparent dysfunction within many organizations. A few weeks ago, it was carefully demonstrated that even after six or seven or nine years of school results clearly being far below acceptable standards there does not appear to be any noticeable projects and programs focused on authentic improvement.

And the recent issue speaks of the collapse of the economic development foundation. I would simply like to share my own experience.

Several years ago, I was quite interested in starting a possible new business within this community. So, I drove during working hours to the beautiful building with the attractive flashing neon sign. To my surprise, it was closed at 11 in the morning. On another day, I went in the afternoon, and it was closed. So, I called and got a machine. Someone returned my call to explain that everyone was at lunch. And that was the end of trying to get help and assistance to start a business in Cibola County.

Kent Ferguson What Economy?

Dear editor, I’ve been thinking about the leadership of our community since the last few editions of the newspaper. I guess over the years the leaders have had this expectation of respect, but what do they do for us?

All we’ve had from our leaders has been me me me me me me me me me and I I I I I I I. Meanwhile, years of these people in power and… What? Still ugly to drive into Grants with all those rundown buildings. Look at the actual development we’ve had in this town. You wouldn’t know we have an economic anything because it doesn’t look like we have one.

Oh, and the school zones on Roosevelt and Second Street still aren’t fixed. You want to make the economy better? Start by getting the school zone lights on the right track, drive by Los Alamitos at night and the school zone signs are flashing. Bah. And the $400,000 a year salary CEO of Continental Divide says he’s going to “fix the bylaws” cant even fix the streetlights.
