Do you remember the song by the group ABBA? “I Believe in Angels.”

I listened to it this past week while working on cleaning old car parts in our workshop. Remember the song, “Angel in the Morning.”

Have you heard the blessing that translates into sweet dreams? “Angels on your pillows, babe.”

Everyone needs an angel to watch over them. I’m no exception and I have one.

A couple years ago, as the month of April approached, I recalled that we have a greatniece named Angel that shares the same birth day in April as our oldest daughter Elisa. The granddaughters had met her years ago. I thought this was neat and since we are always playing riddles, I thought of one for the little girls. I then called our youngest daughter Regina and asked her to see if they could solve this riddle: “Someone in the family has an Angel born on their birthday, and who is it?”

No one got the riddle and months passed. Then there was a day we had to go to Albuquerque to watch the little girls while both parents worked. I walked to the nearby elementary school that day to pick up our granddaughter Mia after school and bring her home. I entered the school and went to the waiting area and shortly Mia came down the hall towards me, accompanied by her teacher. I greeted them both with a cheerful “Hello” and they both replied the same.

The teacher then asked me, “I didn’t know Mia was your angel?”

Without hesitation I quickly replied, “Yes” while Mia was watching me and smiling.

We left the building, her hand in mine; and as we left the school yard, I asked her about what the teacher had mentioned about her being my angel.

Mia replied, “Papa, do you remember a while back when you said that someone had an angel for their birthday, well I’m your angel!”

I was taken aback for a mere split second.

Then I replied, “Yes, you are!” and I reached down and hugged her and rubbed her back.

I could feel the base of wings that had formed and was taken by her honesty and desire. I then understood more about angels than I had previously.

The riddle was solved…?

…Angels and April!
