The new norm: ... spring break!

Yup, it’s here, spring break! Our granddaughters in Albuquerque have been home schooled since the pandemic demanded that and welcomed this opportunity to close lap-top computers and enjoy the needed break. We picked up their little dogs for a sleep-over for the week; hopefully their family would take a mini-vacation away from home. Our schools in Grants have been doing in-person learning already and this break would give the kids a rest from the reintegration into the schools.

It has been over 52 weeks now that we have been social distanced and masked up. Time has flown by although there are days that really seem to drag. I see some our town’s restaurant’ parking lots partially filled with vehicles of customer’s that are now allowed to dine inside at limited numbers. It is encouraging. I remember this time last year of calling stores and restaurants and sharing with the community who was open, closed, dine-in, and shopping hours. We may be approaching what was normal before covid. I hope so.

I was able to exercise muscles not normally used as I shoveled about 5 inches of snow that we received! I thought “Give me a break!” It’s more like winter break! I cleared the snow and spent the next day rubbing sore muscles and watching old car restorations in television. (There was a reward for my effort!)

As I mowed our lawn for the first time I noticed a dandelion that bloomed and reached for the sun’s warmth. I like dandelions.

This past Sunday was great and the warm windless weather caused me to uncover Evelyn’s 1968 Chevelle, then check it’s fluids and ready it for perhaps a cruise; I did the same for our 1959 Chevrolet pickup truck. I got to put the “Station wagon-jeep away” without having to sleep in its first! I did all this and more on...

...spring break!
