There’s a moment in the movie Across the Universe that’s stayed with me.
Soldiers carry the Statue of Liberty through the mud while The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” fills the air.
It’s haunting and beautiful — because it captures the weight of freedom in a way we rarely discuss.
Freedom is heavy. Peace is heavy. But they’re worth carrying.
This week, the war between Israel and Hamas finally came to an end.
Hostages came home. Families embraced. For the first time in years, the guns have gone quiet.
It’s an extraordinary thing to witness, and whatever anyone thinks about politics, it’s undeniable that President Donald Trump has done what no one else could do — bring peace to one of the most divided regions on Earth.
He’s wielding the power of the United States in a way that reminds the world that we are still the greatest force for peace and stability on this planet.
The power of the USA does not come from one man alone. It comes from the people who make this nation what it is — our soldiers, our diplomats, our journalists, our citizens.
It’s the strength of a free people, united by faith and love of country, that gives meaning to that giant statue the soldiers carried in the film — the torch of liberty itself.
Freedom takes work. It takes courage. It takes people willing to lift when others grow tired.
That’s the weight of peace — not a burden to curse, but one to shoulder proudly.
I used to think Billy Joel’s song “We Didn’t Start the Fire” was an excuse — a way to say, “None of this is our fault.” ButnowIseeitdifferently.
He was right: the fire has always been burning. The world has always been heated.
And maybe it’s that very heat that forges us — that keeps America strong, keeps us building, keeps us believing that tomorrow will be brighter than today.
Because that’s what it means to be American.
To stand tall when others fall.
To carry the torch when others set it down.
To believe, even in dark times, that the sun will rise again — and that the United States of America will be there to meet it.
She’s so heavy. But we were born for this.
God bless our soldiers, our journalists, and every American who helps bear the weight of liberty.
God Bless the United States of America.
