GRANTS, N.M. Sports are starting to cook a bit as the school year gets well underway.
The Grants High School football team was on a bye last week and is preparing to play Rio Grande High School this Friday, September 11 at home. The Ravens come in with a (0-3,0-1) record. Last week GHS head coach Gene Riedinger said of the upcoming game , “We match up well and they are quick”.
The Pirates are currently 1-1. Gametime is set for 7pm at the Port of the Pirates.
The Laguna-Acoma Hawks had a rough night last Friday at home as they hosted the powerful Santa Rosa Lions (2-1) and lost 50-0. Next up for the Hawks will be Santa Fe Indian School (2-1) on September 12 at home.
Cibola Volleyball
The GHS volleyball team is currently 1-6 after a recent loss to Taos (2-3) on September 5. The box score was 16-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-16 and 11-15.
Next up for the Lady Pirates will be Bernalillo (2-4) at home on September 8 and then after a 11 day rest they will host Valley (1-3) on September 19 at 2pm.
The Lady Hawks volleyball team is currently 2-3 after a 3-0 loss to Quemado (11-25,19-25, 8-25) on August 27. Next up for the Hawks will be Zuni (1-3) on September 10 at 6pm on the road.
Pirate Soccer
The GHS boys soccer team is currently 0-5-2 after a 2-2 tie with Cottonwood Classic Prep (3-1-2) on September 3.
The Pirates later lost to Rehoboth Christian who is 4-0 on September 5 by a score of 4-2. Next up for the Pirates will be Gallup (0-5) on September 8 on the road then Bloomfield (3-4) at home on September 10 at 6pm.
The Lady Pirates are currently 2-5 after defeating Gallup (0-6) by a score of 11 (3-0 penalty kicks) on August 29. Next up for the Lady Pirates will be Gallup again on September 8 on the road then they host Bloomfield (6-0) on September 10 at 4 pm.
